Flowers have been a significant piece of wedding ceremonies since the Roman times, both Greeks and Romans thought that their smell would deter the evil spirits from the bride and in turn, guarantee happiness and loyalty. The flowers were not carried by the bride in her hands, but, instead, worn in her hair as a garland. At the end of the ceremony the newlyweds would eat the flowers as they were supposed to increase their sexual desire – oh how things have changed.
In today’s day and age we continue to follow the Victorian traditions of handheld bouquets and beautiful arrangements. There are so many options of where to start and where to finish that it can sometimes be very overwhelming – it’s much more than choosing a colour and a family of flowers. Below we have put together a simple checklist to get you on the right track before you meet with your florist to discuss your vision of your big day.
